Opening Notchix for the first time
macOS will say it "cannot verify this app is free of malware". That warning is not about Notchix: macOS shows it for any app from the web that has not been through Apple's paid notarisation service. It takes one extra step, once. After that it opens normally.
- Drag Notchix into your Applications folder.
- Open it. macOS blocks it and shows the warning. Click Done.
- Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and scroll down. Next to "Notchix was blocked to protect your Mac", click Open Anyway.
- Confirm with Touch ID or your password. Notchix opens. You only do this once.
No "Open Anyway" button? It only shows for a while after the app was blocked. Open Notchix again, let it be blocked, then go straight back to Privacy & Security.
After it opens
Notchix lives in the notch, not the Dock. Point at the top centre of your screen and it opens. Clicking Notchix in Launchpad or Spotlight opens it too, with its Settings. On a Mac with no physical notch it draws its own, centred on the menu bar.
Paste your licence key in Settings, Licence. It is in the email from Dodo Payments after your purchase.
Permissions it may ask for
Each one only when you use the thing that needs it. Saying no turns off only that one thing.
- Automation, for Spotify or Apple Music.
- Calendar, to show your next event.
- Location, for local weather. You can type a place instead.
- Camera, for the mirror on Home, only while you look at it.
- Notifications, to tell you when a timer finishes.
- Bluetooth, for your AirPods' battery when they connect.
What it sends: the weather request, exchange rates for Money in Units, a daily check for a new version, Spotify's cover image, and your licence key when you activate it. The privacy policy lists every request.
Need help?
In the menu bar icon, choose Help, Contact Support: it opens an email to notchixapp@gmail.com with your app version filled in. Or message @heyyash.ai on Instagram.
Removing it
Open Settings, Advanced, Erase all Notchix data: it deletes everything Notchix keeps, frees your licence for another Mac and quits. Then drag Notchix from Applications to the Bin.
