The short version
Notchix has no account, no analytics and no server that collects anything about you. What the app makes stays on your Mac. A few requests leave it, each listed below with exactly what they carry: the weather, exchange rates, update checks, licence checks after you buy, and the services you choose to connect yourself. Payment goes through Dodo Payments, who handle your card details.
This website
- No analytics, no cookies and nothing stored in your browser. Fonts and scripts are served from this domain, so loading the page contacts no third party.
- The company hosting these files, Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc.), may keep standard server logs (IP address, time, page requested) for security and operation.
What stays on your Mac
Settings, the pet, timers, notes, the shelf, links, screen time, recently used emoji and, if you turn it on, clipboard history are stored in the app's folder inside ~/Library/Application Support. None of it is uploaded. Deleting that folder removes it, or use Settings, Advanced, Erase all Notchix data, which deletes it all, frees your licence for another Mac and quits.
- Clipboard history is off until you turn it on. When on, it skips anything a password manager marks as concealed or temporary.
- Screen time is counted on your Mac from which app is in front. It is never sent anywhere.
- Claude usage is read from the transcripts Claude Code already keeps in
~/.claudeon your Mac. Nothing is sent. - Crash reports. If Notchix crashes, macOS saves a crash report on your Mac. The next launch offers to open an email to us with a short summary of it (what went wrong, the app and macOS version, your Mac model). Nothing is sent unless you press Send in your own mail app.
- The camera mirror shows your camera only after you click it, only until you close it. Nothing is recorded or saved.
- Keys you paste for Sales or Visitors are kept in
integrations.json, readable only by your macOS account. - Your licence is kept in
license.json: the key, the activation id Dodo Payments returned, your email and order number from their reply, the product name, and when it was activated and last checked. It is deleted when you remove the licence from this Mac or when a refund revokes it.
What leaves your Mac
- Weather. Once you open the weather tool, the app asks Open-Meteo for a forecast and refreshes it from time to time. The request carries your coordinates rounded to about a kilometre, from macOS location services at approximate accuracy or from a city you pick in Settings. No key, account or identifier is attached. The town name shown comes from Apple's own place lookup in macOS, which also receives those approximate coordinates, or the city you type.
- Exchange rates. When you open Money in Units, the app fetches the European Central Bank's daily rates from Frankfurter, at most twice a day. Nothing about you is sent with it.
- Update checks. Once a day the app reads a small file on this website saying what the latest version is. The same file can switch a feature off for everyone while a fix ships, or show a one-time message. Nothing about you is sent with it.
- Licence checks, only after you buy. Nothing is sent before you activate. When you activate, the app sends your licence key and a made-up name for this Mac ("Mac" and six random characters, never your computer's name) to Dodo Payments' licence service. After that it confirms the licence at most once every seven days, sending the key and the activation id, and only when you are online. Offline, it stays licensed. Removing the licence from this Mac sends the key and activation id once more to free the slot. No serial number or hardware id is sent.
- Services you connect. If you paste a key into Sales (Stripe, Lemon Squeezy, Polar or Dodo Payments) or Visitors (Plausible or Umami), the app asks that service for your own numbers using your key, only while that tab is open. Notchix never sees that data anywhere but on your Mac.
- Cover art from Spotify. Spotify gives the app a link to the current cover, and the app downloads the image from Spotify's image server. Apple Music hands the artwork over directly.
- Searches and links you open. These open in your default browser. That request is between your browser and the site.
Like any web request, these carry your IP address and a standard header naming the app and its version.
Permissions
macOS asks you before the app can use any of these, and you can withdraw each one in System Settings, Privacy & Security.
- Automation for Spotify and Music: to read the current track and send play, pause, next and previous.
- Location, optional: approximate position for the weather. You can pick a city instead.
- Calendars, optional: to show today's events and what is up next. Notchix never changes your calendars.
- Camera, optional: only for the mirror, only while it is open.
- Bluetooth, optional: to show your AirPods' and headphones' battery when they connect.
Buying a licence
Dodo Payments sells the licence as merchant of record. They collect your name, email address, payment details and country to take payment, charge the right tax and send your key, and their own privacy policy covers that data. We receive your name, email, country and order details, which we use only to answer support requests, issue refunds and resend lost keys. We never see your card number.
Your rights
Almost everything is on your Mac and under your control already. To see, correct or delete the purchase details we hold, email notchixapp@gmail.com. The data controller is Yash Raj (trading as YR Studio), [[ADDRESS]].
Children
Notchix is not directed at children under 13 and collects nothing about anyone of any age beyond the purchase details above.
Changes
If the app starts sending or storing anything new, this page changes first, and the date at the top changes with it.
